The approach to DBT at Grand Slam Psych is unique from the traditional manualized approach, but it is also deeply effective. In this program, all skills from the four pillars of DBT (mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, & distress tolerance) are reviewed in individual therapy or group sessions; however, there is a specific focus on processing what comes up for the client when learning and applying these skills. Dr. McCabe rarely assigns DBT homework and does not offer phone coaching (after hours contact) to clients.
In the All-Star DBT intensive program, Dr. McCabe hand-selects the “best of the best” skills that fit the needs/presenting concerns of the client. It is a way for clients to get the most relevant skills as quickly as possible.
