All-Star Psychological Care for a Healthier Mind

At Grand Slam Psych, we believe mental health is just as important as physical health. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges without judgment. We emphasize the value of a strong, warm, and genuine therapeutic relationship, so you can also expect a deep interest in you as a person outside of presenting concerns or diagnoses!

Meet Your Therapist, Dr. El McCabe (she/her)

I am a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping athletes, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those struggling with relationship concerns. I have significant experience working with D1 college athletes at Princeton University from 15+ different men’s & women’s teams. I also work with professional athletes, semi-pros, coaches, and Olympians looking to take their game to new heights AND overcome obstacles in their personal lives. Additionally, as an openly Queer therapist, I love working with all members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially with Bisexual, Non-Binary, and Transgender folx. Outside of the therapy room, I am an avid fan of NY sports, a big reader, and lover of all things outdoors. I am licensed to see clients in New York, New Jersey, & Pennslyvania, as well as authorized to see telehealth clients via PsyPact in 40 other states/territories (see map).

What is your approach to therapy?

As a therapist, I am warm, relationship-oriented, and challenging. I let you set the pace of treatment and help you build confidence in your innate abilities to heal and persevere during difficult seasons of life. I use a mixture of a talk-therapy (psychodynamic) approach & more structured skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

What can clients expect from their first & future sessions with you?

I focus the first session on getting to know you, what brings you into therapy, and help you determine if we’re a good fit to achieve your goals. I tend to ask deep, thought-provoking questions and try to infuse humor in our sessions whenever I can. Generally, I am both solution-oriented and process-focused in my approach to sessions after the intake. This means that we will identify and talk through the difficulties you are facing AND learn relevant skills tailored to your specific concerns to help you navigate future obstacles.

Testimonials

What Our Clients Say

Red circle featuring two white quotation marks.

I feel incredible lucky to have gotten to work with El. Right off the bat she was so easy to confide in. She managed to find the difficut balance between giving me hard to hear advice, yet I always felt supported and never judged.  I felt free to cry, to vent, to laugh, and to express whatever I was feeling with her. She opened my eyes to so many new perspectives and ways of thinking that I would have never been able to see alone. Above all, El is a genuinely kind and compassionate human, and I always knew she had my and all of her clients best interests at heart.

I only have amazing things to say about having El as my therapist. She was always willing to help me dive deep and learn more about myself, but at the same time was a great sounding board when I needed to talk through more minor struggles in my life. Additionally, she would often help me learn and see new insights around things to help me better handle situations both in my workplace and in personal relationships, which helped me succeed overall. I feel mentally healthier today than I was before working with El, and I attribute a lot of that to the help she provided me with.

I loved working with El. She creates such a calm and welcoming atmosphere that I felt at ease from our very first session. She is a wonderful listener who truly makes you feel understood, comfortable, and safe. I also really appreciate her sense of humor, which makes the harder conversations feel much more manageable. A great person and I miss her.

El equipped me with the tools and coping mechanisms to sustain me through 6+ months out of therapy after I had my daughter. Although being out of therapy was not ideal, finding time as a new mom was not possible. I was thankful she set me up for success!
